Don Ho eyeing release from hospital

HONOLULU, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Hawaiian entertainer Don Ho, who recently checked himself into a hospital for a pacemaker adjustment, is in good condition and hoping to be released soon.

The Honolulu Star reported that the 76-year-old singer underwent a successful alteration to his pacemaker since checking into an unidentified hospital on Sept. 13 and is eyeing an escape to a locale with more suitable culinary offerings.

"I'm sick of the food here," the singer said. "I want cookies, I want ice cream, I want sweet stuff. Stay away from the salty stuff -- that stuff will kill you."

Ho, who also underwent experimental stem cell treatment almost a year ago, will wait to resume his performances at the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber hotel but he informed the Star that he feels no after-effects from his recent operation.

"They just took it out and everything is pumping OK. Psychologically it feels great; physiologically, we'll see," he said.
