Kinder, gentler Super Bowl ads this year

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Madison Avenue is going for cute and funny in Super Bowl advertising this year, it was reported Thursday.

No more crotch-biting dogs or crass pitches, the New York Daily News reported.

"You'll see humor, but it will be universal," John Osborn of BBDO New York -- the brains behind a number of Super Bowl ads -- told the newspaper.

One Anheuser-Busch ad features a mini Clydesdale who dreams of someday pulling the Budweiser wagon.

Jessica Simpson will appear in a humorous ad for Pizza Hut while Diddy and Jackie Chan will hawk Diet Pepsi. Burger King will roll out the Whopperettes in an MGM-style spot featuring pickles, lettuce and tomatoes singing and dancing through "Have It Your Way."

The office monkeys will be putting in an encore appearance for CareerBuilder.com -- a campaign that has once again this year drawn a complaint from primatologist Jane Goodall. She said companies including Puma and Honda pulled ads featuring great apes, after determining that cruelty was used in the training of chimpanzees.

"Chimpanzees are suffering horribly for our entertainment," said Goodall.
