LOS ANGELES, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- New Line Cinema is taking to the streets in its search for the next Tracy Turnblad to lead the cast of "Hairspray."
Ricki Lake starred in John Waters' 1988 flick and now New Line is getting ready to re-do the film based on the hit Broadway musical drawn from the original film.
Open casting calls for the roles of Tracy, Seaweed and Li'l Inez will be conducted next month in New York, Chicago and Atlanta, Daily Variety reported.
John Travolta is expected take the role of Tracy's mother, Edna Turnblad; Billy Crystal is in talks to play her dad, Wilbur; and Queen Latifah has been tapped as Motormouth Maybelle, Variety said.
Shooting is scheduled in Toronto and Baltimore this summer aiming for a release in the summer of 2007.
