LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Actor Johnny Depp cemented his place in Hollywood history by adding his hand and footprints to the sidewalk outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Many fans spent the night along Hollywood Boulevard to get a glimpse of the Oscar-nominated actor, KABC-TV, Los Angeles, reported.

"So this is weird," Depp said during Friday's ceremony as his latest film, "Corpse Bride" opened across the United States. "I mean, to say that this is overwhelming is probably the understatement of the millennium.

"I'm going to come check on it weekly, just to make sure that somebody, you know, that you guys don't take it away, just like store it in a warehouse or something," he said.

Depp is reprising in his Oscar-nominated role of Capt. Jack Sparrow, currently shooting the 2006 "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and "Pirates of the Caribbean 3."
