Cable nets join in Katrina telethon effort

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- About 20 cable TV channels are joining the major networks in airing the "Shelter from the Storm" telethon for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Among the musicians and performers scheduled to appear are Neil Young, Chris Rock , Sheryl Crow, Alicia Keys, Paul Simon, the Dixie Chicks, Randy Newman and Rod Stewart, Zap2it.com reports.

The hour-long, commercial free special will be broadcast live on the East Coast at 8 p.m. and tape delayed for West Coast viewers.

Also scheduled to log in time during the special are Sela Ward, Ellen DeGeneres, Jack Nicholson, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston and Ray Romano as well as Rock.

The show will be staged from Sony Studios in New York and Los Angeles, Zap2it.com reported.
