Buffett goes country on new album

KEY WEST, Fla., July 12 (UPI) -- "Margaritaville" takes on a twang on Jimmy Buffett's new album, "License to Chill," which features guest appearances by several top country singers.

"It's not a big stretch, really," said Buffett, a Mississippi native who started his career in the late 60s as a journalist and songwriter in Nashville. In 2003, he had a No. 1 country duet with Alan Jackson, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere."

"It wasn't going unnoticed in this camp that there were a lot of references to me by all these guys who are hot country stars who happen to be (Buffett) fans. They would put me in their songs or do my songs in their shows or talk about me in interviews. So why not work with them."

"License to Chill's" guest list includes George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith and Clint Black, along with Martina McBride, Nanci Griffith and R&B singer Bill Withers.

The album arrives in stores on Tuesday.
