Elliott Smith's final album is completed

NEW YORK, July 7 (UPI) -- Two associates of songwriter Elliott Smith reportedly have nearly completed the album Smith was recording prior to his death last year.

The album may be released later this year, XFM reported Wednesday.

Although the album was nearly complete before Smith's death, it was felt at the time it was not suitable for release, the report said.

However, the record titled 'Songs From A Basement On A Hill', is now nearly ready for an Autumn release.

It was completed by Rob Schnapf, co-producer of Smith's 1998's 'XO' and 2000's 'Figure 8' albums. Joanna Bolme, Smith's former girlfriend, tied up the loose ends on the recordings, the report said.

Schnapf and Bolme were recruited by Smith's family to complete the record.
