BBC votes 'Two Towers' tops

LONDON, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Part two of Peter Jackson's famous trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," was named the year's top film by BBC One's "Film 2003" program.

At a time when the epic trilogy's final installment is setting box office records worldwide, "Two Towers" came in first place when "Film 2003" presenter Jonathan Ross counted down the top 10 on Sunday's edition of the show.

Though "Two Towers" was released in December 2002, the film still met the criteria to be considered in voting. Part three of the "Lord of the Rings" series, "Return of the King," which was released Dec. 17, was not eligible for this year's survey.

"The Two Towers" claimed the top spot over "Kill Bill Volume One" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," in second and third place respectively.

Brazilian crime thriller "City of God" came in fourth, with Disney's animated tale "Finding Nemo" placing fifth.
