Poland details tank buy

WARSAW, Poland, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Poland's Ministry of Defense reports 119 Leopard tanks it is acquiring from Germany will equip the Army's 11 Lubusz Armored Cavalry Division in Sagan.

The main battle tanks are being purchased for $246 million and will be delivered by the German military this year and next.

The contract is for 105 of the 2A5 version of the Leopard and 14 of the 2A4 14 version.

Poland said 200 pieces of related support and security equipment is included under the deal, including BPZ-2 Bergepanzer armored recovery vehicles, MB 250 GD Wolf passenger cars, DB 1017 A medium-capacity high mobility cars,

DB U-1300L light duty high mobility vehicles, deep fording equipment for Leopard 2 tanks, AGDUS laser firing simulators for Leopard 2A5 tanks, machine guns and radios to equip the tanks, and armored tractors.

The related support and security equipment will be delivered to Poland in 2015, Minister of Defense Tomasz Siemoniak was quoted as saying by the Ministry of Defense.
