MONTREAL, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- CAE of Canada reported Thursday $98.5 million in military contracts for its flight simulator service and products.
Canada's Department of National Defense tapped the company to upgrade a full-service CC-130H simulator with additional operator stations, window displays and technology for aerial refueling and search-and-rescue missions.
It will also modernize the computer system of a CH-146 Griffon helicopter simulator.
International contracts received by the company include one from a Malaysian company for maintenance and life-cycle support for an AW-139 helicopter simulator, which CAE is delivering to the company this year; a contract from an unidentified European customer to design, manufacture and deliver a CAE 3000 Series helicopter full-flight simulator; and a multiyear contract for helicopter training from an unidentified Asian customer.
CAE said it will also design and manufacture maintenance trainers for Tornado jet fighters -- one for the German air force and one for the British air force.
"CAE's global presence, our comprehensive portfolio of both simulation products and services, and a significant installed base continues to give us a solid pipeline of opportunities," said Martin Gagne, CAE's group president, Military Products, Training and Services. "As militaries around the world face the reality of declining budgets, they will increasingly turn to simulation-based training to reduce costs and maintain readiness.
"CAE is well-positioned globally to address the growing use of simulation by governments and defense forces."
