NEW YORK, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- According to a report by Euromonitor International, South Koreans drink the most hard liquor of any country, with Russians coming in second.
South Koreans drink an average of 13.7 shots per person per week. That's twice as much as Russia, which drinks an average of 6.3 shots per week. The other countries occupying the top five spots were Thailand, the Philippines and Japan. The U.S. came in tenth with 3.3 shots per week.
South Korea can attribute most of its hard liquor consumption to the fermented rice spirit soju. It's the most popular drink to share with friends after work. Even though they drink the most liquid, soju's alcohol content is only 20 percent while vodka, Russia's most popular liquor, has 40 percent alcohol content.
