WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she is disappointed that the Olympics are taking place in Sochi because of the Russian government's vocal anti-gay attitude.

In an interview with NowThis News, Pelosi said in regards to the discrimination against gays, "In light of the LGBT issues, it's like going into ancient history. The whole world has moved to a different place and that this should even be an issue just speaks to the inappropriateness of Russia being the site for the Winter Olympics."

She voiced her disappointment both with the location of the Olympics and the Olympic Committee, "I'm disappointed that Sochi is the site. The Olympic Committee has never been concerned about human rights and I think this was a very bad choice to have the Olympics there."

On a lighter and more personal note, the minority leader said another problem with the Olympics is that it completely disrupts her schedule because she is an avid watcher.

The 2014 Winter Olympics begin Feb. 7 and run until Feb. 23.
