Sarah Silverman calls Mike Huckabee’s remarks ‘gross’

Comedian Sarah Silverman stopped by MSNBC Thursday to share her thoughts on Mike Huckabee's comments regarding women's health.

“When a politician is speaking on behalf of those people who are pulling their strings for their purse and for the betterment of their career, it’s gross,” she told Alex Wagner of the comments made by the former Governor of Arkansas during the Republican National Committee's annual winter meeting in Washington.

“I guess I’m stunned, but at the same time, it’s so bizarre,” she said. “He says he wants women to control their libido … you know … I too, would like to control my libido and my reproductive system.”

The 43-year-old comedian went on to say that women need to be aware of the message Republicans are trying to disseminate. She added that she tries to always include a political prelude to her comedy shows to inform her audience of what's going on.

“For the most part, to talk about what’s going on, I have to let people know what’s going on first before I can go into any comedy,” she said. “Many women don’t know what’s going on and that it’s going to affect them in major ways and is already starting to.”

As for Huckabee’s comments on women needing to “control their libido,” Silverman said the remark had been pure "hypocrisy."

“These are people who are anti-big government, and yet they want to make laws about my vagina, and what I do with my body,” she said. “I don’t think that would be tolerated if we started legislating men’s bodies.”
