6 U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan helicopter crash

Six U.S. troops were killed in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan today, with reports of one survivor.

Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan today killed six U.S. troops; there was one survivor.

The troops aboard the helicopter were members of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.

ISAF posted on Twitter that the crash was under investigation.

A U.S. defense official said that early reports indicate the crash was caused by engine failure and noted that there was no enemy activity in the area when the helicopter crashed.

The identities of the troops killed have not been released.
