Snow blanketed much of the Middle East into the weekend, with the unusual winter weather closing roads, stranding motorists and cutting power to people in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian territories usually accustomed to a warmer climate.

In Israel, white wintery fluff blanketed holy sites like the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock.

Israeli media described the storm as "the worst in decades," while Mayor Nir Barkat said Jerusalem was "in a battle against a rare storm, the likes of which we have never seen."
