Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Three teen boys have been arrested for allowing a friend drive drunk after she crashed into a tree and died.
Police in Glastonbury, Conn., said the three boys, now 17, knew Jane Modlesky was "highly intoxicated" in the early morning hours of July 14, and failed to prevent her from making the ultimately fatal decision to drive.
Modlesky was with four boys before the crash, police said. The initial driver dropped a friend off and then drove home and got out of the car. Another boy then took the wheel and drove himself and another teen home, before handing the keys over to Modlesky.
She struck a tree half a mile away, police said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"They very well knew that she was intoxicated and should not have been driving," said Agent James Kennedy of the Glastonbury Police Department.
The first driver was charged with violation of passenger restrictions and operating a motor vehicle between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., which is not permitted for teens with provisional drivers licenses. The second driver has been given an additional charge of reckless endangerment in the second degree, as well as the vehicle operation and passenger restriction charges.
The other teen who got out at the second stop has also been charged with reckless endangerment.
In August, police charged the girl who threw the party, where all the teens had been drinking, with serving alcohol to minors.
