Yadier Molina sits out game due to mother's surgery

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina reportedly sat out Wednesday night's game against the the Milwaukee Brewers because of a family situation, St. Louis manager Mike Matheny explained.

Neither the catcher nor his brother, assistant hitting coach Bengie Molina, were at the stadium during the game. They were with their mother who underwent surgery, MLB.com reported.

The surgery is considered a private matter, but Molina's mother is reportedly in stable condition.

Matheny did not say when Molina will be back.
