Mark Sanchez likely to have shoulder surgery

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is "likely to have surgery" after being diagnosed with a labral tear in his right shoulder by doctor James Andrews on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old player is reportedly still trying to make a final decision on whether to have the surgery to repair the tear and instability considering the operation would put an end to his 2013 NFL season.

Sanchez's alternative choice would be to rehabilitate the shoulder in an effort to continue to play this year, but he'll likely still need surgery at the end of the year.

"If I needed surgery right now, I never would have left Andrews' office. I would've stayed and got the surgery," Sanchez told ESPN.

Asked if he was trying to deny rumors that he'd likely needed surgery, Sanchez said, "There's nothing to report. It's reckless."

A source close to the QB said it would make no sense for the player to delay the inevitable under the circumstances of the injury.

Sanchez was injured on August 24 while playing behind a second team offensive line.
