After more than 20 years in professional baseball, Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki has joined one of the game's most exclusive clubs.

During Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Suzuki became one of just three players to knock 4,000 hits, joining Pete Rose and Ty Cobb as the only players to reach that impressive milestone.

Before Wednesday, he had gone 0 for 10 against the Jay's starting pitcher, R.A. Dickey, but that was no impediment, when he quickly swatted a single in the bottom of the first inning.

He has 2,722 hits over 11 seasons with the Seattle Mariners and one with the Yankees in Major League Baseball, and 1,278 hits over 9 years with Orix BlueWave in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league.

The 39-year-old says he'd love to hit another major milestone: the 3,000-hit mark. Suzuki has passed more than 200 hits in 10 seasons, so and he has another year on his contract with New York, so that's a goal that is within reach.

“I think that’s a goal that is easier to make,” he said through a translator. “Nobody will say anything about 3,000. There will be no debating from any fans or media.”

Suzuki already holds one impressive record: the most hits in a single season, in 2004, with 262, and spent 7 seasons as the league leader in hits.

He has more seasons than any other player with more than 200 hits, other than Pete Rose, the all-time hit leader, who also had 10.
