Emmys pay tribute to Alex Trebek, Cicely Tyson during In Memoriam segment

Sept. 20 (UPI) -- The 73rd annual Emmy Awards paid tribute to Alex Trebek, Cicely Tyson, Michael K. Williams and more during the In Memoriam segment, which featured musicians Leon Bridges and Jon Batiste take the stage.

Bridges and Batiste teamed up to perform Bridges' song "River," from his 2015 album titled Coming Home on Sunday.

Norm Macdonald, Larry King, Christopher Plummer, Ed Asner, Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLeod, Jackie Mason, George Segal, Ned Beatty, Markie Post, Yaphet Kotto, Hal Holbrook, Dustin Diamond, Marc Wilmore, Norm Crosby, Helen McCrory, Charles Grodin, Conchata Ferrell, Olympia Dukakis, Jessica Walter, Paul Mooney, Biz Markie and many more were also honored.

"We're trying to build a gentler, kinder society and if we all pitch in just a little bit, we're going to get there," Trebek says in a video clip that was played during the segment.

"I want you to know that I would not be here if it weren't for each one of you. I am everlastingly grateful," Tyson says in her own clip.

Cedric the Entertainer hosted the Emmys, which saw The Crown, Ted Lasso and Mare of Easttown winning big.
