Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Mr. Mercedes, a psychological thriller series based on a trilogy of Stephen King novels, has been renewed for a third season.

A post on the AT&T original show's Twitter feed Monday said fresh episodes are expected to air on the Audience Network channel next year.

Penned by David E. Kelley, the first two 10-episode seasons followed Harry Treadaway as serial killer Brady Hartsfield and Brendan Gleeson as Bill Hodges, the detective trying to bring him to justice. Holland Taylor, Nancy Travis, Justine Lupe and Jharrel Jerome played recurring roles.

"This is one of my favorite adaptations -- smart and scary," King tweeted after the renewal news broke.
