Qantas turbulence injures seven

SYDNEY, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Passengers on a Qantas flight from London to Sydney praised the aircraft's crew for its response when turbulence caused many to be injured.

"It was the worst turbulence I've experienced in my life. I went two feet off the ground. I believe somebody's head went through an overhead cabin," passenger John Whittle told The (Sydney) Daily Telegraph.

The turbulence, which occurred on Saturday's flight QF32, injured seven people -- one man's hip was dislocated, an 80-year-old woman had her nose broken and another passenger suffered a leg injury, passengers said.

"The plane went up and down and all over the place. People flew to the roof," passenger Mike Kerr said. "It was quite a shock. People were saying they were going to die and [they were] screaming."

His wife Anne Kerr said the Qantas staff were "fantastic."

"The kids were very scared. The captain kept coming and saw the kids," she said.

The passengers spent 24 hours in Singapore before heading to Sydney, The Daily Telegraph said.
