KOCHI, India, April 26 (UPI) -- Twenty people suffered minor injuries in heavy turbulence during an Emirates flight over India, authorities said.

The plane, with 350 people aboard, hit an air pocket and suddenly dropped in altitude from 35,000 feet Sunday, airline spokesman Majid al-Mualla said.

"The aircraft landed safely (in Kochi) and the captain requested medical support to meet the aircraft -- all affected passengers were treated and have now been released," Mualla said.

Indian civil aviation authorities ordered an investigation of the incident and a thorough inspection of the plane.

"The aircraft will leave (India) only after it is certified," said Nazim Zaidi, a spokesman for India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
