Turbulence causes injuries on two flights

BOSTON, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Severe turbulence was linked to injuries to 18 passengers on two flights that landed at Boston's Logan International Airport, an airport spokesman said.

Airport spokesman Phil Orlandella told CNN the first incident Sunday involved seven passengers on Jet Blue Airways Flight 852 from Puerto Rico to Boston. Orlandella said three of the seven refused medical attention.

Passengers told the Boston Herald it felt like the plane hit an air pocket over the Atlantic Ocean about an hour into the flight, causing some people to hit their heads and spill hot coffee. Boston Emergency Medical Services said it treated four for minor bumps and bruises, the newspaper said.

The second incident, also Sunday, involved Lufthansa Flight 429 from Charlotte, N.C., to Munich, Germany, which was diverted to Boston after 11 people were injured in turbulence.
