Eight slain during Mexico volleyball game

CULIACAN, Mexico, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Eight men were gunned down this weekend while playing volleyball in the violence-plagued Mexican state of Sinaloa, law enforcement officials said.

The eight were taking part in a match in the city of Culiacan where six other homicide victims were found in two separate locations.

Authorities said the players were ambushed on the makeshift court by at least five hooded gunmen who pulled up in luxury cars and surrounded the victims. El Universal said Sunday that paramedics were blocked by the killers for a time from treating the victims.

The identities of the victims were released over the weekend; however it was not known if they were connected to the narcotics trade. None of the men had a criminal record, El Universal said.
