Nov. 28 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump addressed Tuesday's North Korean missile launched and slammed Democrat leaders for not attending a scheduled meeting.

He gave the remarks in the Roosevelt Room of the White House while sitting between two empty chairs with the nameplates of Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in front of them.

"Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi did not show up for our meeting today," Trump said. "I'm not really surprised, we have a lot of differences."

The two Democrats said they would not attend a meeting of congressional leadership with Trump after the president tweeted that he didn't think they could reach a deal to keep the government running.

During his remarks, Trump called Pelosi and Schumer "weak" on crime, military spending and immigration.

On the North Korean missile, Trump said he had Defense Secretary James Mattis monitoring the situation.

"We will take care of it," Trump said. "It is a situation that we will handle."

The White House canceled its scheduled press briefing with press secretary Sarah Sanders so that Trump could address the media directly. He took one question about whether his position on North Korea had changed after Tuesday's missile. He said it hadn't.
