BLOOMING GROVE, Pa., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Police hunting for alleged cop killer Eric Frein have reportedly come across a letter they believe was written by Frein detailing some of his plans.

Senior law enforcement officers revealed the existence of the note to CNN Monday.

The handwritten letter reportedly includes details of how Frein shot two Pennsylvania State troopers, killing one, then escaping last month. It does not, however, contain a motive.

It's not clear whether the letter was left intentionally or by accident. Over the four-week manhunt, police have also uncovered a number of items they believe belonged to Frein, including a stash of food, guns and pipe bombs. Investigators did not confirm or deny the report.

"I am not commenting on any evidence found unless it poses a threat to the community," trooper Tom Kelly said in a statement.

More than 1,000 officers have taken part in the manhunt for Frein since the Sept. 12 shooting that killed Cpl. Bryon Dickso and wounded trooper Alex Douglass at the barracks at Blooming Grove. Frein, a self-styled survivalist, is believed to be hiding in a five-square mile area near his family's home, but has managed to evade capture thanks to his training and the dense woods.

He was spotted as recently as Sunday, and police said they believe the cooler weather will help as rain clears the leaves from trees, which will allow for aerial surveillance.

"The cold will help us," said Edward J. Hanko, the special agent in charge of the Philadelphia division of the FBI. "He's out there, and he's not going to be starting fires to keep warm."
