BLOOMING GROVE, Pa., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The search for suspected cop-killer Eric Frein turned up two pipe bombs at a campsite in the woods of northeast Pennsylvania, police said Tuesday.

At a news conference, Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police, said investigators also found an AK-47 with ammunition and ammunition for a .308 rifle. Bivens said the bombs could have been detonated by a trip wire or by lighting a fuse, and described them as fully functional.

Bivens called on Frein, 31, to give up. He has been on the run since Sept. 13 when he allegedly ambushed two state troopers outside the Blooming Grove barracks.

"I'm calling on you, Eric, to surrender," Bivens said. "We continue to take your supplies and weapons stockpiles. We are not going anywhere."

The devices were discovered Monday, police sources told the Philadelphia Inquirer. Searchers scouring an area in the Pocono Mountains for Frein have found other devices during more than two weeks of searching.

Frein, a survivalist and military re-enactor who grew up in the area, allegedly killed one state trooper, Cpl. Bryon Dickson, and wounded another during an ambush outside the Blooming Grove barracks.

The source said concerns about explosives and booby traps have slowed the search.

"He's really familiar with the area," the official said. "He can move around a lot quicker too because we have to be cautious."

The official said Frein has been spotted four or five times. But he said every time Frein has run away and investigators do not believe he is lying in wait for police.
