Brownback wins in Kansas gov. landslide

TOPEKA, Kan., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Republican Sam Brownback moves from the U.S. Senate to governor of Kansas with an easy election win over Democrat Tom Holland, results showed Tuesday.

Brownback was projected the winner after capturing 61 percent of the vote to Holland's 35 percent, followed by Libertarian party candidate Andrew Gray with 3 percent of the vote and the Reform Party nominee, Ken Cannon, with 2 percent, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

Holland conceded the race about 9 p.m.

Republican Congressman Jerry Moran won Brownback's seat in the Senate with more than 69 percent of the vote over newcomer Democratic opponent Lisa Johnston, who received 26.9 percent, The New York Times reported.

Republican state Rep. Kevin Yoder was outdistancing Democratic challenger Stephene Moore, wife of retiring Rep. Dennis Moore (D), 58 percent to almost 40 percent. In 2009, Yoder pleaded guilty to refusing to take an alcohol breath test.
