Va. polls paint different pictures

NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- One poll has Republican presidential hopeful John McCain leading Democrat Barack Obama in Virginia by 7 percentage points, but another poll shows Obama leading.

A poll by Christopher Newport University conducted Sept. 10- Sept. 14 has McCain leading 53.8 percent to Obama's 46.2 percent, The (Newport News, Va.) Daily Press reported Thursday.

Among independent voters, McCain leads 52.9 percent to 47.1 percent. The poll has a margin of error of 4.38 percent.

A Public Policy Polling poll, however, indicates that Obama has a narrow lead in Virginia, with 48 percent support compared to McCain's 46 percent.

The poll of 1,090 likely voters was conducted Sept. 13- Sept.14. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
