Democrats keep pushing SCHIP

WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Congressional Democrats Saturday used their weekly radio message to again push for passage of the national children’s healthcare program known as SCHIP.

Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., told a story about how the State Children’s Health Insurance Program helped when two children in a Montana family suffered injuries.

“For all the talk about partisanship and gridlock in Washington, CHIP has been an amazing example of what government can do when we work together,” Baucus said.

He called on Congress to work together across the aisle and override President George Bush’s veto of the bill expanding SCHIP coverage to more American families.

“It’s an American priority,” he said.
