Taiwan, trade to be major issues for Hu

WASHINGTON, April 17 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush and Chinese President Hu Jintao are expected to push different issues when they meet in Washington this week.

For Hu, Taiwan is most important, while for Bush it is likely to be the growing U.S. trade deficit with China, CNN reported.

Hu's visit begins in Seattle, a city with a large Chinese population and two major companies, Microsoft and Boeing, who do a lot of business with China. He is scheduled to have dinner with Microsoft founder Bill Gates Tuesday night.

China views Taiwan as a breakaway province, while Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian has been pushing independence. The United States has an official "one China" policy, while pressuring China to keep hands off Taiwan.
