Iraqi government reconsiders security plan

BAGHDAD, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A top Iraqi security official said Sunday leaders will meet soon to reconsider the current security plan and improve it, a report said.

Iraq's al-Sabah al-Jadeed daily quoted National Security Minister Abdul Karim al-Anzi as saying that Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari has called for discussing the security plan and to "resolve the gaps in this plan by placing new methods that can face the latest developments."

Al-Anzi, however, did not say when the meeting of the security leadership will convene.

The minister's comments came a week after Defense Minister Saadoun al-Duleimi warned the residents of four Arab Sunni cities to either "expel the terrorists" from their towns or face a massive military onslaught.

Working on a new security plan also comes amid a rise in car bomb explosions in the past week, which killed a total of 250 people and injured hundreds of others, mostly civilian Shiites.
