Spanish troops arrive home

MADRID, April 20 (UPI) -- A planeload of 260 Spanish troops arrived in Madrid from Iraq Tuesday at the start of a promised pullout from the U.S.-led coalition.

The Spanish news agency EfE said more flights were scheduled for April 24 through April 28 to bring back the rest of Spain's contingent of 1,300 troops.

On Sunday, socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero announced the immediate troop withdrawal without waiting for the June 30 deadline when the United States hands over power to an Iraqi government.
