Sixth-seeded Garbine Muguruza of Spain regrouped after having her second-round match suspended due to rain by rallying for an 0-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory over American Christina McHale on Friday at the Miami Open.

Muguruza saved a match point at 6-5 in the second set tie-break and overcame a sluggish start to the third before turning her fortunes around.

"I think I had a second chance with the rain," said Muguruza, who trailed 6-0, 3-2 when the match was halted on Thursday. "It had everything, the match -- she started playing very well the first set yesterday, and I think my game was not exactly how I wanted it to be. I was missing by a little and she was not missing at all.

"I just forgot about it, and I woke up today and I said, 'Hey, this is not over.' I went to the court, I fight, and I got it in the end."

Muguruza advances to face 30th-seeded Chinese player Zhang Shuai, who also rallied from a set down to post a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Italian Sara Errani.

Third-seeded Romanian Simona Halep also needed three sets to dispatch Japan's Naomi Osaka before recording a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 triumph.
