June 25 (UPI) -- Saudi Arabia defeated Egypt 2-1 in their last game of the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Monday at Volgograd Arena in Volgograd, Russia.

The game drew 36,823 spectators to the stadium located in Volgograd, which holds 43,713 fans.

Saudi Arabia's goals were scored by Salman Al-Faraj (45th minute, penalty) and Salem Al-Dawsari (90th minute, extra time). Mohammed Salah scored the lone goal for Egypt (22nd minute).

Al-Faraj failed to convert a penalty kick in the 41st minute. It was rebuffed by Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary, who became the oldest footballer in the history of the World Cup championships at the age of 45.

Saudi Arabia scored its first victory in the World Cup championships since 1994, when it won 1-0 against Belgium.

Egypt has yet to achieve a victory at the World Cup. The team took part in the World Cup final stages in 1934 and 1990, losing two matches and ending another two in a draw.
