FC Barcelona complete transfer for Palmeiras D Yerry Mina

Jan. 11 (UPI) -- La Liga leaders FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Yerry Mina from Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras.

The Catalonian club announced the acquisition on Thursday. Mina's transfer included a transaction fee of $14.2 million.

"FC Barcelona and Palmeiras have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Yerry Mina for the remainder of the season and five more until June 30, 2023," FC Barcelona said in a news release. "The cost of the transfer is €11.8m. The buyout clause has been set at €100m."

"We will shortly inform you of the agenda and the presentation time of the player."

Mina, 23, is known as a physical, yet quick, ball-playing defender. The Colombian had nine goals in 49 games for the Brazilian squad. He also has three scores in nine appearances for the Colombian national team.

Mina made his senior team debut in 2013 for Deportiva Pasto. He played for Santa Fe before joining Palmeiras in 2016.

The transfer comes days after Barcelona finally won its bid for Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

Barcelona faces Celta Vigo at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Round of 16 in Copa del Rey action at Camp Nou in Barcelona.
