Ex-ref Tim Donaghy arrested after alleged threat with hammer

Disgraced former NBA referee Tim Donaghy was arrested in Manatee County, Fla., earlier this week after allegedly threatening a man with a hammer.

Donaghy, who spent 13 months in federal prison for betting on NBA games he officiated, was charged with felony aggravated assault.

Per Manatee County Sheriff's Department records, Donaghy confronted his 19-year-old daughter in the street in front of a house in Bradenton (Fla.) where he believed she was using drugs.

After engaging in an argument with his daughter, the owner approached the two before Donaghy allegedly wielded the hammer and told the man that he would use it if he came any closer.

Donaghy, 50, was arrested and appeared in court Tuesday. He was released on $5,000 bond and given a Jan. 19 court date for arraignment.

Donaghy, who was an NBA referee from 1994-2007, admitted in 2008 that he took money from a professional gambler for inside tips on NBA games. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to engage in wire fraud and transmitting betting information through interstate commerce.
