Former New York Knicks forward Charles Oakley told ESPN on Thursday that he has been rebuffed on numerous occasions in his bid to mend a fractured relationship with team owner James Dolan.

"He don't want to meet with me," Oakley told The Undefeated's Mike Wise. "Man won't even shake my hand."

Oakley's remarks came one day after he was arrested and charged with three counts of assault following an altercation in the stands near Dolan during the Knicks' game versus the Los Angeles Clippers at Madison Square Garden.

The 53-year-old Oakley also took issue with the team's statement following the ordeal, which ended with, "He is a great Knick and we hope he gets help soon."

"Right there, attacking my character like that -- not makin' it about the moment but somethin' bigger that's wrong with me? -- I couldn't believe it," Oakley said. "I don't know how you do that. I don't."

He was subsequently charged with three counts of assault for hitting security guards and was also charged with criminal trespassing.

Oakley has been critical of the struggling team over the years. He said he took issue with Dolan refusing to shake his hand at the 2014 All-Star Game in New Orleans.

"Whenever I go to the Garden now, security has been told to inform him immediately," Oakley said on Thursday. "Last year against Charlotte I went to a game and a bunch of security people came up to me right away and told me not to walk around, stay where I am. He just doesn't want me in the building."

Oakley played for the Knicks from 1988-89 to 1997-98, part of a 14-year career that included stints with five teams. He was an All-Star in 1993-94, and he averaged 9.7 points and 9.5 rebounds in 1,282 career games.
