The official groundbreaking ceremony for the state-of-the-art sports and entertainment complex is planned for noon on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 300 South Street in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood.

Chase Center will also host other events, including: concerts, family shows, and conventions. The new arena will seat 18,000 and "anchor a district of 11 acres of restaurants, cafes, offices, public plazas and other amenities the neighborhood currently lacks, along with a new five-and-a-half-acre public waterfront park," according to the ChaseCenter.com.

"The Bay Area is a beacon for technology, innovation and education and we expect that Chase Center will become a beacon of great art, culture, sports and entertainment for this great community," JPMorgan Chase chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon said in a statement.

The Oracle Arena opened in 1966, but has undergone multiple renovations.
