April 3 (UPI) -- Ace arm Felix Hernandez gave up two runs before departing the Seattle Mariners' contest Monday against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.

Hernandez tweaked his groin while running to cover first base in the fourth inning. He stayed on the mound through the fourth and fifth frame, before leaving the diamond. He allowed five hits and two home runs while tossing six strikeouts on 65 pitches. Right-handed Nick Vincent allowed another run in relief after 'King Felix' left with the tight muscle.

The former Cy Young Award winner was 11-8 last season, winning his fewest starts since the 2008 season. Hernandez, 30, is due $26 million in 2017 and 2018. He will cash in for $27 million on the final year of his deal in 2019.

Monday marked Hernandez's ninth-consecutive opening day start, more than any other active pitcher.
