The Kansas City Chiefs ruled out running back Spencer Ware for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars as he continues to recover from a concussion.

Ware, the Chiefs' leading rusher with 511 yards, sat out practice all week after suffering a concussion last Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Kansas City will start Charcandrick West against the Jaguars. West, second on the Chiefs with 139 rushing yards, played last week mostly in the second half after Ware left the game, rushing for 52 yards on 14 carries. West led the Chiefs last season with 634 rushing yards.

Bishop Sankey and Anthony Sherman are the only other running backs on the roster after Jamaal Charles had exploratory surgery Wednesday on his right knee. The four-time Pro Bowl selection was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, and he will miss at least eight weeks.

Sankey was signed this week off the practice squad of the New England Patriots.

The Chiefs will start Nick Foles at quarterback for injured Alex Smith.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that Smith will not play and will be inactive, even though the quarterback does not have a concussion. Smith took two blows to the head in the Chiefs' 30-14 win over the Colts.
