Michael Saunders of the Toronto Blue Jays and Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants were added to the rosters for the Tuesday's All-Star Game after winning the balloting in their respective leagues in the Final Vote for the 2016 All-Star Game.
Voting was held the past few days online, via text and via Twitter by Major League Baseball to select one player who will be added to the All-Star rosters. Voters chose from a list of five candidates from each league.
Saunders finished first in the American League, followed, in order, by George Springer of Houston Astros, Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox, Ian Kinsler of the Detroit Tigers and Evan Longoria of the Tapa Bay Rays.
Saunders, 29, will make his first All-Star Game appearance. He is hitting .298 with 16 homers and 41 RBIs.
In the National League voting, Belt finished first, followed, in order, by Starling Marte of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Trevor Story of the Colorado Rockies, Jake Lamb of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Belt, 28, also will make his first All-Star Game appearance. He is batting .300 with 10 homers, 46 RBIs and an NL-best 27 doubles for the Giants, who have the best record in baseball.
The players who did not finish first in this voting still have a chance to get selected to the All-Star Game as replacements for injured players.
Last year, six of the 10 players in the Final Vote ended up in the All-Star Game.
