Inbee Park looking at golf major history this week

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 29 (UPI) -- Inbee Park the No. 1-ranked player in women's golf, will be looking for her record fourth major tournament title of 2013 this week.

Park has six titles this year, a run that allowed her to become the eighth woman to reach the No. 1 spot in the world rankings. Among those championships are the U.S. Women's Open, the Wegmans LPGA Championship and the Kraft Nabisco Champion -- three of the five major tournaments on the women's golf calendar.

The fourth of those is this week, the Women's British Open at St. Andrews.

Park was the runner-up to Jiyai Shin in the tournament a year ago and finished in the Top 10 in the last three British Opens.

If Park can win the event this week, she'll be the first player -- man or woman -- to win four consecutive majors in a calendar year. Park's win at the U.S. Women's Open allowed her to tie golf legends Babe Zaharias, Mickey Wright and Pat Bradley with three majors in the same year.

Women's golf recognizes five majors, with the Evian Championship bestowed with major status as of this year. The 2013 Evian is scheduled for September in France.

There was one change in the Top 10 this week, with Karrie Webb moving ahead of Feng Shanshan for the No. 6 spot, relegating Feng to seventh.
