NEW YORK, July 4 (UPI) -- The New York Knicks and shooting guard J.R. Smith have agreed to a contract, Smith's agent told the New York Daily News.

Agent Leon Rose confirmed Smith -- the 2012-13 winner of the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award -- will be paid about $25 million in the next four years, with a player option after the third year, the Daily News reported Thursday.

Smith, 27, averaged a career-high 18 points per game last season but went cold in the post-season, scoring 14.3 points per game and shooting 27 from beyond the 3-point line -- and getting suspended for one game for throwing an elbow at Jason Terry of the Boston Celtics.

Smith joins Carmelo Anthony, Iman Shumpert, Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler in signing contracts to play for New York in 2013-14.
