ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 4 (UPI) -- Robinson Cano's two-run single in the eighth inning provided the difference Wednesday and the New York Yankees salvaged a 4-3 win over Tampa Bay.
Trailing 3-1 entering the frame, the Yankees rallied to score three times and went on to avoid a three-game series sweep and break a nine-game losing streak at Tropicana Field.
Tampa Bay's Kyle Farnsworth (0-1) walked the bases loaded with one out, then issued a fourth base-on-balls to Alex Rodriguez, cutting the Yankees' deficit to a run.
Jake McGee came in to pitch and Cano greeted him by lining a two-strike pitch into left center field, chasing home Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira to put New York ahead by a run.
Boone Logan (3-0) was credited with the win despite yielding a two-run homer to Carlos Pena in the seventh. Rafael Soriano collected his 19th save for the American League East-leading Yanks.
Rays starter David Price allowed one run on four hits over seven innings in a no-decision.
