MLB: Chicago Cubs 8, Milwaukee 0

CHICAGO, April 12 (UPI) -- Matt Garza allowed three hits over 8 2/3 innings Thursday and the Chicago Cubs took control with an early six-run rally en route to an 8-0 win over Milwaukee.

The Brewers managed just three singles off Garza (1-0), who was pulled with two outs in the ninth after he committed a throwing error. He walked two and struck out nine. He struck out the side in the third inning.

All the Cubs' runs and nine hits were charged to Milwaukee starter Zack Greinke (1-1)

Chicago batted around in the third inning with five players posting one-run singles and Alfonso Soriano knocking in two with a base hit. A double play ended the inning.

The Cubs added two runs the next inning. Steve Clevenger led off with a double but Greinke struck out two batters before David DeJesus singled in Clevenger and took second on an error. Greinke was pulled after walking Darwin Barney and Starlin Castro had an RBI single off reliever Manny Parra.
