LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Loui Eriksson registered the only score of the shootout Thursday and the Dallas Stars, despite letting a two-goal lead get away, defeated Los Angeles 5-4.
Eriksson scored twice in regulation as well, in a game punctuated by a fight in the third period between Dallas captain Brenden Morrow and Mike Richards of the Kings.
Once the brawl was stopped, Richards was given 5 minutes for fighting, 2 minutes for being an instigator, 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct and a game-misconduct penalty.
Los Angeles was leading 4-3 at the time of the fight, but Eriksson tied it on the power play 2 minutes later. He also scored the first Dallas goal with 5:56 to play in the opening period.
Eriksson then scored in the second round of the shootout and Dallas goaltender Kari Lehtonen stopped Trevor Lewis to open the third round, giving the Stars their third win in four games. The Kings have lost in overtime in four of their last 11 outings.
Dallas owned a 3-1 lead in the second period before the Kings surged in front on unanswered goals from Trevor Lewis, Jack Johnson and Dustin Brown.
Lehtonen had 37 saves. All of the Dallas goals came against Jonathan Quick, who stopped 34 shots.
