DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Alvaro Quiros closed with an eagle Friday in tying the course record and taking a four-stroke lead at the European Tour's Dubai World Championship.

Quiros had a bogey-free, 8-under-par 64 in matching the record at the Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course. Peter Hanson shot 64 Thursday, a score that tied the course record set two years ago by Lee Westwood, for the first-round lead of the tournament.

Quiros is at 12-under 132 after 36 holes. Hanson, who had an even-par 72 Friday, is second at 8-under and Robert Rock (69 Friday) and Rory McIlroy (71) are tied for third.

Quiros had a pair of birdies in his first four holes Friday and, after another at the eighth hole, made the turn at 3-under. He added birdies at 11, 14 and 16 before his eagle at the 18th hole.

He powered his second shot on the 620-yard, par-5 final hole to the green, ending up 20 feet from the pin. The eagle putt pushed his lead to four strokes.

McIlroy, who had bogeys on his final two holes Friday, needs to win the Dubai World Championship and have Luke Donald finish outside the Top Nine to win the European Tour's 2011 money title.

If that doesn't happen, Donald, who is tied for 12th after a 68 Friday left him at 4-under for the tournament, will be the first person to lead the year-end money lists on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour in the same year.
