SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Joe Pavelski scored shorthanded with 12 seconds left in the first period Friday to start a run of five straight goals that lifted San Jose over Detroit 5-2.
Pavelski reached 10 goals for the season, tying the score at 1-1 as time was running out in the period.

Joe Thornton, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Torrey Mitchell all scored in the second and Brad Winchester delivered his first of the season midway through the third to give the Sharks a 5-1 lead.
San Jose drove Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard from the game after he gave up four goals on 21 shots. Ty Conklin allowed a goal on seven shots in relief.
Antti Niemi earned the victory with 40 saves.
